I am beyond grateful for the incredible experience I had at the International Wilderness Canoe Camp 2024 in Canada, organized by the Rotary Club of Sioux Lookout
Over two weeks, 12 young people from around the world, all strangers, gathered for a 200-kilometre canoe journey through the stunning Canadian wilderness, far away from any civilization, pushing our limits and strengthening life-lasting friendships.
From learning essential survival and camping skills to navigating challenging portages and working as a cohesive team, every moment was both rewarding and educational.
One of the most enriching aspects of this experience was the opportunity to connect with participants from all over the world. Sharing this journey with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures opened my eyes to new perspectives and broadened my horizons.
It was a powerful reminder of the importance of global connections and understanding in today's interconnected world.
Special thanks to the amazing Rotary Club of Sioux Lookout, the dedicated organizers, and my fellow participants who made this journey unforgettable. The bonds we formed, the laughs we shared, and the challenges we overcame together are memories I will cherish forever.
Here's to new adventures, lifelong friendships, and the power of stepping out of our comfort zones!

An unmatched and unique initiative! About 20 years ago, I was the Belgian participant on the canoe trip! I'm still thankful that you invited me to enjoy nature, meet wonderful people, and make friendships for life! With this program, you truly create memories that last a lifetime.

Thank you very much to your whole team for the wonderful Canoe Camp experience Matthias was allowed to have! He came back exhausted, but very, very happy and full of memories. We have watched more than 2.000 photos already and can't get enough. Beautiful scenery, exciting wildlife, some adventures, a lot of hard work, but most of all: good friends. When we asked Matthias what he enjoyed most, he was absolutely clear: the people. Matthias, my wife Charlotte and I do realize how much effort and time you have spent in making this possible. We want to thank you, the host families and especially those adults who spent a whole week with the young people on the trip, plus all those who contributed by letting the participants fly in a water plane or the owner of the Guardian Eagle Lodge for the delicious meal on the last night of the trip. Please pass along our thanks to all of them and to your entire Rotary Club. It was an absolutely outstanding once-in-a-lifetime experience for Matthias, and we are all so thankful to you and your team for making this possible.
Thanking you once again,
best wishes, Jens

“What meant the most to me about the canoe trip was the challenge we overcame together as a team. It wasn't always easy, but facing the difficulties side by side created a strong sense of unity and support… That sense of togetherness made the whole experience truly meaningful.”
A heartfelt thank you to all the Rotarians and community volunteers whose passion and time continue to make this incredible experience possible.
